Google PageRank для изображений, фотографий и т.д - VisualRank!

Google представил новую технологию, которая будет служить своего рода PageRank-ом для изображений, фотографий и т.д.

New York Times опубликовала статью, которая буквально начинается так:

Разработчики Google заявляют, что у них есть технология, предназначенная для работы с цифровыми изображениями в сети таким же образом, как это делал софт PageRank с запросами по обычнм страницам.

В четверг на конференции World Wide Web в Пекине, два разработчика компании Google представили документ с описанием того, что исследователи назвали VisualRank, алгоритм объединяющий ПО для распознания изображений с методами классификации и ранжирования изображений, которые выглядят наиболее схожими.

“Результаты нашего эксперимента свидетельствуют о значительном улучшении, с точки зрения пользовательской удовлетворенности и релевантности, по сравнению с последними результатами поиска с помощью Google Image Search “, - говорят в своем исследовании разработчики Shumeet Baluja иYushi Jing.

Почитав их релиз, становится понятным, на что они делали упор. Сейчас, Google не особо парится по поводу содержания самого изображения. Вместо этого, во внимание берется текст вокруг изображения. VisualRank же на самом деле стремится распознать то, что есть на изображении.

Хотя кое кто склонен выражать опасения по поводу возможных манипуляций с новым принципом работы Google VisualRank (то, что произошло с ссылками, когда появился PageRank ), новая технология также сможет и генерировать новый трафик по картинкам, на что многие, собственно говоря, и надеются. К тому же, зачем же еще подобные технологии, кроме как для возможности использовать в своих целях? :)

Не знаю, как скоро мы увидим это нововведение, но уже сейчас становится интересно. :)
